Chauhan, Amity Institute of Food Technology (AIFT) was established under the aegis of Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida in 2006. As a mission, AIFT has been functioning as a model educational & Research institution and creating valuable human resource in the Food Science, Technology and Nutrition Domain for the last 17 years. It has also successfully built Academia-Industry linkages to facilitate easy access for students for their Trainings and Placements. Institute is also taking a big leap in discovering, developing and designing next generation food and nutrition concepts which would eventually meet the needs of Industry and people to overcome malnutrition, optimal conservation and utilization of nation's food resources. The Institute has several thematic research clusters as: functional foods & nutraceuticals, biofilms, underutilized foods, valorizations, food equipment designing, meat analogues, food safety & sustainability. The department collaborates with many national and international organizations to generate cutting-edge technologies for sustainable food systems.

Over the past 50 years, Food Systems worldwide have shifted from predominantly rural to industrialized and consolidated systems, with impacts on diets, nutrition and health, livelihoods, and environmental sustainability. The Food industry have undergone a series of transitions over the past several decades, impacting the environment and climate. Providing equal access to food security and healthy diets to human population is the essential goal of all the nations. For making it possible, we need to design a healthier food production systems in a more holistic manner while minimizing waste, developing new technologies of valorization, and exploiting new food materials for food production. Novel foods are the outcome of these developments and play an important role in providing sustainable and healthier food for everyone.

Despite India’s economic progress over the past two decades, regional inequality, food insecurity and malnutrition problems persist. Simultaneously, trends in overweight and obesity, along with micronutrient deficiency, portend a future public health crisis. We examine the synergistic interactions between food production and nutrition through the lens of a “Food Systems Approach (FSA)”. We explore various challenges and opportunities to achieve a nutrition secure future. This conference will bring together the latest data available on development processes in food sector, highlighting the nature of food system challenges, identifying the trends and threats to progress, emphasizing policy and institutional interventions needed to address challenges and setting an interlinking system for health and nutrition and economic development.

The conference focused on how food systems need to be transformed to overcome the multiple deeply rooted and interlinked crises of hunger, malnutrition, health, inequality, increasing cost of living, climate, biodiversity, conflict, and energy in order to achieve the SDGs. To meet this challenge, food industry needs new ideas in the field of food processing, nutrition and sustainable food production. Considering the importance of the topic, Amity Institute of Food Technology announces AMIFOST-2024 on “Recent Advances and Future Prospects in formatting a Healthier Food System” on 19-20th March 2024.

Researchers, scientists, policy makers, academicians, and students are invited to submit a 250- word abstract on any of the conference themes or related areas to by 15th March 2024.
